Albufera de Valencia

The Albufera de Valencia Natural Park is located 20 kilometres from the Valencian capital, and is one of the most important coastal wetlands in the Mediterranean basin.

It covers an area of 20,000 hectares and its origin is related to an enormous coastal lagoon, almost 24 square kilometres in size, separated from the sea by a cordon of dunes and a pine forest popularly known as the “Dehesa del Saler”.

The appearance of this lagoon is due to the sinking of the Valencian huerta between the mouths of the rivers Júcar, to the south (next to Cullera), and Turia, to the north (next to Valencia).
